Roulette
The game of Roulette has a lengthy history dating back to the Frenchman of the 1700’s who brought the game’s attention to America if the 1800’s. Roulette was originally played with just 28 numbers in the playing field and later extended to 36 numbers with the 0 and double 0 as we know the game today. By adding the extra numbers to the wheel, the house advantage greatly increased, however, Roulette is still a very exciting game especially when the big payoff hits!
“Inside Bets” and “Outside” bets are the 2 main betting areas or Roulette. Understanding each betting area will help you make a better decision on how to play according to your style of betting. If you want to take more risk for bigger payoffs, then you may want to bet on the inside area which includes 3 rows of numbers including 0 and 00. These bets placed in the inside area have slimmer odds of winning, but hitting your bet could pay off as high as 35-1. If you rather play higher percentages, than you may want to keep your play on the outside betting area which have better odds but payouts on bets hit will be much smaller. Understanding what possible betting options are on a Roulette table may have you lean towards a more balanced betting strategy, mixing it up between the Inside and Outside betting areas.
The outside betting area includes odd/even, black/red, and number ranges such as 1-18 and 19-36 for betting. The risk is minimal so the payouts on the outside betting area will be smaller in return for winning bets. Here are the betting options for the outside area:
Red/Black: a bet that is placed on red or black within the outside betting box. This bet is one of the most popular. Odds- 1:1 (doubling your bet)
Odd/Even: same type of bet as red/black, but bet is determined on the outcome of the spin whether the number is odd or even. Odds- 1:1(doubling your bet)
Dozens Bet: a bet on 12 consecutive numbers which are pre determined, 1-12, 13-24, and 25-36. Boxes are marked within the outside betting area for this bet. If 0 or double 0 comes up, all these bets lose. Odds- 2:1
Column Bets: a bet that also bets placed on 12 numbers, but instead of consecutive numbers, numbers are in vertical rows. Odds- 2:1
As mentioned before, betting on the inside allows you to win a lot more but the odds of hitting your bet are greatly reduced to house’s favor. Here is what you need to know about betting the inside:
Straight Up Bet: A bet placed on any single number. Odds- 35:1
Split Bet: a bet that straddles the line of 2 numbers. Odds- 17:1
Corner or Quad Bet: A bet placed on the corners of 4 numbers that you are betting on. Any number within the bet hits, the player wins. Odds- 8:1
Street or Line Bet: a bet placed on the vertical line separating the outside and inside betting areas. Odds- 11:1
Double Street Bet: same as the normal Street Bet, but also allows straddling the row above or below. Odds- 5:1
Basket Bet: Known as the worst bet in Roulette, it’s a bet on 0, 00, 1, 2, 3. on the double 0 wheel; it gives the house a 7.89% advantage. Odds- 6:1
With a little practice, understanding the game completely will help you decide on how you will approach the game of Roulette. The more you play, you will be able to figure out different betting strategies that may help you win along the way. Remember, the game of Roulette is pretty much all luck with no sure way to win playing the game. However, developing your own strategies is the best way to approach the game. Playing Roulette online is the best way to get comfortable with the atmosphere of the game when you are a new player. Trying to learn in a real casino can be intimidating especially with misplacing chips and annoying other players and croupier.
